Player Bio - Viper

The Viper, or Viper to her close friends, is one of the founding mothers of Squiggly ball.

Origin:
Her run of Squiggly Ball started when she was a young skater boy. One day she decided to do some tricks at a nuclear power plant and after landing a kick flip, accidentally fell into some
Nuclear waste.

She hurried off home to change so took a short cut through a grass field. This is where fate took it's course. She was bitten by a viper snake and laid unconscious marinated in nuclear waste, cooking in the sun.

When she awoke she was Kat no more, but Viper of the arena. She couldn't skate like she used to, so helped invent the underground game
of Squiggly ball. The only thing she fears is post game interviews.

Signature move:

"The vicious strike" this takes place as the ball is in the air and she redirects it towards an opponents chest.

Catch Phrase:

"You better wear a diaper cuz here comes the Viper" in a souther accent.

Nemesis:

The Terror

Player Bio - The Antelope

The Antelope, also known as Great Wildebeest, is one of squiggly balls most graceful players.

She grew up alone in the wild when her parents were shot during a hunting frenzy. She was able to make it out alive due to her quick dodging skills and very silent treks. Her wilderness lifestyle is perfect for the arena, because she can easily sneak up on people and also has quick reflexes to dodge any balls heading her way. Unfortunately from time to time she gets caught like a deer in headlights staring at the ball and gets struck.

Signature moves:
"The Wildeleap" when she hops over an incoming ball gracefully and quietly, usually at the center of the arena.

"Horns of Fury" When she dodges a kill shot and kicks the ball really hard.

Catch Phrase:

"Shiittt Man"

Nemesis:

River Dance

Official Name Change

It's official Young's name is going to be : The Padawan. Once he wins a few more matches it is possible for him to go on to the next level and earn the name "The Jedi".

Player Bio - The Ballerina

The Ballerina is graceful, tranquil, and elegant, 3 qualities not very helpful in the arena (or are they)?

The Ballerina used to tour across the world performing recitals professionally. An injury caused by a ballet move, the Croisé sidelined her for a year. During her recovery process she found out about squiggly ball and attempted to play it. She was a natural from the start and ended up in the death match, but failed to win.

It is now The Ballerina's life long goal to win a match of Squiggly Ball. She's always a contender as her multiple death matches can show, but has failed to make her strikes count in the end.

Signature Move:

The Black Swan- when she twirls around a ball and kicks it directly at her opponents legs.

Catch Phrase:

"Nothing."

Nemesis:

The Phantom

Another eventful night for Squiggly Ball.

River Dance again broke the records by being the 1st to win a 6th match. He did it while competing against Viper, The Antelope, The Terror, and of course the always dangerous Phantom. The Viper also won a game, getting her 4th of the season.

The Antelope had a, in her words, "uneventful" night. She managed to get a few strikes, but failed to be a real threat when it counted.

The Phantom also had an off night as he attempted too often to catch balls. He caught 3 balls in one game, but failed to catch a ball at the end (with the controversial full press of River Dance) to knock him out of the game.

The Terror had a great night and it really felt like he was going to get back on the victory table, but failed in the end against Viper. As you can see on the below video he blames it on a back injury, but I think we can all agree that the back ache wasn't a real factor in the loss.

The Viper ignored the trainer's suggestions to stay out of the game and played anyway. Her mental toughness paid off as she won the 2nd game. In that same round, she was sent to the Penalty (time out) period by 3 opponents catching all 3 of her strikes. She came back in the round with a personal vendetta against everyone and won the match. We also learned that Viper's only fear is a post game interview, but we managed to get one anyway.

River Dance took charge in the 1st game by playing the role of the aggressor. He kept using his move and going for kill shots, but failed to land any. His full court press on the Phantom while the Phantom tried to catch his ball is still controversial, but the refs let it slide this time. He had a strong showing and deserved that 1st round win and 6th win on the season.

Player Bio - The Terror

The Terror is the offspring of lies and deceit. He has the ability to sweat up a storm as if the arena is being played in hell. He is a fireball of non stop energy and always a contender when he makes it to the final round. Although we have seen a slight decrease in his game lately, you can never fully count him out. Perhaps he is lying and waiting to take advantage of you.

Signature Move:

The Terror's signature move is called "The Terrible Truth". This takes place when his eyes are full of rage and he claims to have less strikes than he'll admit. He also has "The invisible Leg" this takes place when he pretends he didn't get hit by the squiggly ball. Two very dangerous moves, that are almost unstoppable.

Catch Phrase:

"That didn't hit me!"

Nemesis:

River Dance

Young's Nickname

Young was not satisfied with the nickname "The Invisible Man" so suggested , "The Jedi". I think that might be too powerful of a name, so Michelle suggested "The Padawan" which I love.

So far Padawan is in the lead for Young's Nickname. Please comment below w/ your suggestions.

Other possibilities:

Young Everlasting
Forever Young
Young and Restless
Old
The Striker
Younga Fett
Young Skywalker

We'll vote on the top 4 soon.

It was an eventful night for Squiggly Ball. The introduction of two players took place as well the comeback for a previous champion (The Viper) and a new record for number of players in a match. The night's contestants were: The Ballerina, The Terror, The Phantom, The Viper, The Machine, The Invisible Man, River Dance, and last but not least, Lightning Holt.

On this night of Squiggly Ball we were introduced to Hien "The Machine" and Young "The Invisible Man". Both were contestants from the get-go, as The Machine some how managed to play a solid robotic game and win his 1st match of Squiggly Ball ever! A feat never been done before. The Antelope came close to doing this back on her 1st night, winning her 2nd round of Squiggly ball, but never before has someone won their first game. Quite impressive really.

During the 2nd Round The Newbies came out firing and both ended up in the final death match. It was The Invisible Man vs The Machine. They were left w/ no energy as they squiggled themselves too quickly, but somehow the invisible man appeared just in time and hit The Machine to win the game. It appeared the machine ran out of gas.

After some convincing the group of 8 played one more round, where Lightning Holt and The Viper put on some impressive performances. The Viper continued with her venemous shots, but failed to win as the round went to Lightning Holt. Lightning Holt always electrifying.

The next few matches had 5-6 players. The 4th Round was won by The Phantom. Always glorious and mysterious. The Terror came close, but failed in the end where it mattered.

5th Round was won by River Dance. His feet were too quick even for himself at times. He is the 1st to win 5 matches of Squiggly Ball a record that wouldn't last long.

6th Round was won by The Phantom, getting his 5th win of the league and tying River Dance for all time wins.

It was an exciting day for the games and there are more to come. So remember to put your best foot forward and strike your opponent where it counts.

It's Squiggle Time

The games were a bit empty tonight as there were only four competitors. The Phantom, Queen Cobra, The Terror, and Lightning Holt.

The Phantom wasn't his usual dapper self having been taken into the penalty box early. He had a few strikes, but failed to even try his glorious Phantom Dance, ultimately leading to his demise.

Queen Cobra also came into the penalty area early in the match, but it seemed to rejuvinate her as she made it to the final death match and barely lost.

The Terror played a phenomenal game, but fell short when Lightning Holt struck him hard on the leg with a Thunderous shot. The Terror has now failed to win in his last 3 matches.

Lightning Holt, the man of the hour, played strong from beginning to end. He truly earned his victory and electrified the arena, but was it the best effort? It makes you wonder if the results would have been the same had there been more competitors. For now, we must congratulate Lightning Holt and a job well done.

Watch him here on his victory interview:

Player Bio : The Phantom

The Phantom has been in the hearts of countless women. He has a beautiful voice and the ability to charm anyone. Damn, I'm getting sweaty just talking about him.

The Phantom uses a strategy where he runs around the court pointlessly causing a ghostly illusion and appears to be invisible. He is probably the best looking and most athletic player in the squiggly games. He has his fair share of wins, impressive as he also is the head commentator.

Catch phrase:

"The Phantom of the arena" he sings this out loud striking fear in the hearts of his opponents.
Or
"Damn, the Phantom is good looking"

Signature move:

The Ghost Dance. When he runs in circles until he tires himself out and quits and lies down. Very dangerous when he has the endurance as he is basically invisible during this time.

Titles:

Three. That's right punks!

Match Highlights 4-1-11

The game started off like all others. Once the stiggle (the ball) was in play everyone ran away like scared forest creatures.

Queen Cobra could not continue where she left off, having just won for the first time the previous day. In fact she was the first one out in both games, but did take great pictures.

The Antelope continued to show promise and was quite sneaky with some of her shots, catching a few victims.

Lightning Holt was off to a great start and electrified the crowd. He failed to win any games, but did show his opponents that he is and will be a force in the future.

The Terror played an emotional two games, both ending in disappointment. If memory serves me right he failed to catch a ball leading to a double strike and also hit himself with the stiggle committing a "suicide". Here you can see him taking his penalty area timeout.

The Ballerina's slow play almost paid off as she was in the finals of both games. In both final games the opponents nailed her in the upper body and showed no mercy to her grace.

The winners:

The River Dance won the first
Game easily as he danced and dodged anything coming his way. He worked on a new technique where he Lifts the ball to make it easier to earn a double strike. Players have to watch out for this in the coming games.

The Phantom won the 2nd game with a phenomenal strike hitting the ballerina in the chest area. He seemed to be on fire and is finally getting the recognition he deserves. And he's very good looking as well. He kept his ritual of running around in circles appearing and disappearing at will.

Player Bio: Queen Cobra

Queen Cobra, grew up in the mean streets of Downey. She had 3 older brothers and an older sister, so getting roughed up from time to time is something that she is used to.

She has been able to channel her aggression onto the arena where she is often striking people and getting double strikes on opponents. She has seen the arena finals more than 3 times taking home the victory just once. Look out for her in the future as she is always threat to take home the title.

Catch Phrase:

"tssss"

Signature Move:

Venom kick- a kick that often lands a chest blow on an opponent.

What are the Rules

Like most games the rules are constantly evolving. We will do our best to keep you updated when a rule has changed.

The Opening:

Before the actual game begins, there is a gathering at the center of the court where each player has to stick their right hand in a huddle. The most recent victor gets to call 1-2-3 and then one of the following phrases is shouted by all players : "Squiggly Ball" "Let's Squiggle". At times if a player is out due to injury, a brief 5 second moment of silence will be held in respect.

The Game:

The object of the game is to kick the ball at other opponents. It is very similar to "dodgeball" but with kicking as the way of moving the ball. All areas of the body are targetable except the bottom of the foot. This is the only spot of the body that is strike-free.

When handling the ball, you can only dribble (move the ball) around with the bottom of your foot. You can kick with your toes or any part of the foot, but ball handling is only done with the bottom of the foot.

Your foot is considered strike free when you are making a kick like motion towards the ball.

Each opponent starts off with 3 lives. When you get hit below the waste that is one strike, so you're left w/ 2 strikes. If you get hit above the waist that is worth 2 strikes. If you get hit in the head (anywhere above the neck) it is considered a "Kill Shot" and that person automatically has 3 strikes.

Penalty box/ Time Out - When you get 3 strikes you are left in the penalty box for 1 minute. When the minute is up, you can go back into the game and continue the game as if you had 2 strikes. If you absorb another strike, you are out for the remainder of the game.

Catching the ball- If someone kicked the ball into the air, opponents have the oppurtunity to catch the ball to give the kicker a strike. If the person mishandles the ball with their hands and drops it, they are given 2 strikes due to their hands being above the waist. If a player gets hit with the ball and they catch it before it hits the ground, it is a strike for the person who kicked it.

The Discovery of Squiggly Ball

They say that Sir Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree when all of a sudden an apple fell from a branch and bopped him on the head. This lead to the discovery of gravity and how it works. Sometimes man's greatest discoveries were accidental, just ask Christopher Columbus. Well... hundreds of years later here we find ourselves in a similar situation. Another great discovery has been made/invented. The discovery of SQUIGGLY BALL. Squiggly Ball began when Daniel walked into the break room one day holding a stress ball. As he entered the room, he saw that Kat had her back turned as she was reaching for something in the fridge. Daniel, always thinking on his toes dropped the ball and kicked it towards Kat. Kat, not named for her Cat like reflexes although her parents might have been foreshadowing her great dodging skills, stepped aside and the ball flew right by her. This is where fate took it's turn. She lined up the ball and aimed back at Daniel hitting him on his ankle. As I mentioned before, Daniel is a bit of a genius so he said, "ah that's one strike on me." and kicked the ball at Kat again. Kat again dodged and kicked the ball and it lead to a 10 minute battle that ended with Kat winning. Upon exiting the break room, they realized this was no ordinary break room. It had become THE ARENA and Squiggly Ball was born.
